IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER Thursday March 26, 7.30pm Civic Trust AGM. Presbyterian Church Hall, Welham St. Sunday March 29, 2.30pmThe Beecroft Orchestra. Mt St Benedict College
Message from the President Dear fellow residents,
March means AGM month for many organisations and that also includes the Civic Trust.
I strongly encourage you to come along on Thursday night the 26th March
at the Presbyterian Church Hall. The meeting is scheduled to
commence after our guest speaker, Professor Adrian Sproul who will talk
about a very relevant topic: Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. The
talk will be informative and interesting. The evening will conclude with supper being served.
The
Trust is always seeking new committees members with diverse backgrounds
and professions. The Trust must continue to evolve to meet the needs of
our community. If you can’t attend the AGM and would still like
to contribute to our community, you can still become involved by joining
the Trust committee at any time. CLICK HERE for a nomination form.
Many would find it interesting to discover the range of issues in which we are involved.
Hopefully, I’ll see some new faces on Thursday night 26th at the AGM.
What the Civic Trust did in March 2026 Everyone in our community is welcome to join us for a great opportunity to learn more about solar panels, clean energy and how to make your home more energy efficient. The Trust is hosting a free presentation by Professor Alistair Sproul, UNSW, on Thursday 26 March 2026 at 7.30pm inthe Beecroft Presbyterian Church Hall – make a diary note now!
Professor Sproul is a leading researcher on Photovoltaics, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
at UNSW and will talk about the latest developments in the
field. There is ample parking behind the hall and in Welham and
Mary Streets.
The talk will precede the BCCT Annual General Meeting.
We hope that everyone will stay for the AGM and then have the chance to
chat over supper after the AGM. The Trust invites our local
councillors, mayors, state and federal politicians to attend the evening
so it is an occasion at which attendees may meet some of our local
elected representatives. Of course we particularly hope that all members of the BCCTwill accept the invitation
emailed to them last week to come to the AGM. Members are
able to vote and also able to nominate to join the committee either
before or at the meeting. If you would like to become a member
($20 annual subscription) please CLICK HERE.
In addition to several short reports, a new committee will be elected at
the AGM and a special resolution will be proposed to adopt an updated
Constitution. The updated Constitution acknowledges the importance
of the Beecroft and Cheltenham History Group, which amalgamated with the BCCT some years ago. If you would like to check out their excellent website, please CLICK HERE
A big thank you to the volunteers and the local Scout group who helped
clean up the Village Green on Sunday 1 March 2026 as part of the Annual
Clean Up Australia Campaign. The facilities at the Village Green
have become very popular and it is a great resource for our community.

The
Trust has applied for a grant under the 2025-2026 Volunteer Grants
Round for the electorate of Berowra after receiving notification of the
funding opportunity from our Federal member, Mr Julian Leeser MP.
Any funds we may secure will help us to keep our membership subscription
(currently $20 per calendar year) as low as possible.
Members of the community have continued to alert us to their concerns which have included the following:
The
promised and overdue extension of the bike path that currently extends
between the Crescent Beecroft and Cheltenham Railway station to other
possible areas such as from Thompsons Corner to Cherrybrook Metro cycle
path or the Carlingford to Parramatta Cycle path.
The
Trust has made a submission identifying some potential issues
concerning the Development Application (DA) for the subdivision of 19A
Day Rd Cheltenham into two lots. CLICK HERE to read the letter to Council.
Two
footpath safety issues in Hannah St and Wongala Crescent.
Following a letter from the BCCT President detailing these issues, there
was a prompt response from Hornsby Shire Council. The protruding bolts
were removed from the footpath in Wongala Crescent and the subsidence of
some pavers outside Beecroft Place in Hannah St was referred to the
Council’s’ Asset Management team and has now been remedied.
The
State Significant Development Application (SSD) lodged with the NSW
Department of Planning to demolish the Thomson Aged Care Facility at
132-134 Beecroft Road and replace it with a new $65 Million three-storey
facility with 134 bed capacity. The property backs onto some
homes in Boronia Avenue. Submissions from the public are now
closed.
Vintage
Cellars on the corner of Mary St and Beecroft Rd has closed and will
reopen as Liquorland as Coles implements the re-badging of its Vintage
Cellars outlets.
The
Trust is awaiting the outcome (see February eNews Bulletin) of the
Arden Anglican School Development Application and of our related
correspondence to Hornsby Council regarding the issue of flood risk zoning in our area. We will keep you posted.
